Note:  It should be noted that the fruits of Shikimic and Illicium lanceolatum AC Smith both look like those of Star Anise, and both have the aroma of Anethole.  But the fruits and essence oil of Shikimic and Illicium lanceolatum AC Smith are both containing virulent elements. It is important that they are not confused with Star Anise.

 Use

Usage range and Dosage:
(1) It is stipulated in Chinese "Hygienic Standards for Food Additives in Use"GB 2760-1996that, appropriate dosage of the substance can be applied in confecting varieties of foodstuff  essence according to production needs.
 
(2)Stipulated in FEMA No.2095, the highest reference dosage of the substance employed in different foodstuff is respectively as follows: Pastry230/㎏;Candy,190/㎏;Mellow contained drinks50/㎏;Meat20~55/.
 
(3)For actual employment referencethe substance has characteristic freshness and sweetness of the aroma and spice of star anise. It smells strong sweet. 
 Star Anise is one of the Chinese traditional condiments.  Its essence oil can be employed in the flavoring for candy, beverage, and alcohol. 
 
For example the Sarsae essence is compounded by the Star Anise Oil and Holly,  as well as other Spices and Herbs.  
 
It can also be employed together with other spices in confection essence. Star Anise combined with Orange Oil has superior effect in concealing septic odor of sulfide.  

The substance is also frequently used in medicament, toothpaste and buccal fragrancy medicament.
