ManufacturingBaeyer isolated and did the structure identification for the pure Terpinolene; and the Terpinolene can be manufactured from pinene being processed by sulfuric acid ethanol solvent.

Natural existence According to report, small amounts of the Terpinolene exist in a few kinds of essential oils, e.g., Manila elemi, a few kinds of pines and firs, and Nectandra elaiophora, Dacrydium colensoi, etc..

Regulation

Terpinolene is recognized by FEMA1965 as GRASand is approved by FDA to be edible21CFR 121.1164.

The Council of Europe (1974) enlisted the terpinolene into the Synthetic Aroma Substance Inventory that can be temporarily added into the food and that does no harm to the public’s health.
